Phase 2: Take Action

1

Youth Group Awareness

Mrs Hanna's group is targeting local youth leaders in an effort to spread awareness among churches, and specifically youth.  They intend to share our drive with these leaders in a short presentation including possible awareness approaches and activities their youth could take part in to help the Lighthouse continue their mission.

Through their efforts, they hope to help the Lighthouse by informing the community churches and youth of ways to get involved and provide for those in need.  Mrs. Hanna's house is spreading awareness to future community leaders.

Building Future Projects

Mr Eberly's advisory house is creating plans for future projects here at ETA. Students are split into groups that will outline project ideas that will help fulfill some of the Lighthouse’s needs. These projects can be implemented by courses here at ETA next school year.

Fire vs. Police Penny War

The fire department and police department have agreed to go head-to-head in support of The Lighthouse. Students will place two jars together at local businesses, one representing police the other representing firefighters, between May 18th and May 22nd. Then, community members can donate to change to go towards either the fire team or the police team. The winning chief will get to push a pie in the face of the losing chief! All proceeds collected from the jars will go towards The Lighthouse. Our goal as an advisory to raise $1000. If your business would like to host a set of jars between May 18th and May 22nd, please contact Anna Kneller at knellerac@wccs.k12.in.us

Tools for Success: Getting back on Track

Mr. Winger's house is devolving tools to help the residents of the Lighthouse learn important skills.  These skills include how to obtain a job, getting a driver’s license, and budgeting.  Students are putting together digital, informational products to aid people in getting back on track.  These products will be available even after they transition out of the Lighthouse. These skills will help people gain independence and support their future success.

5

Light the Way

Students in Mrs Lucky's house are working to create a ready-to-implement multimedia public relations campaign that creates awareness for The Lighthouse "Light the Way" program. Mrs. Luckey's house is developing the "Light the Way" program and guidelines to support families and their needs during their stay at the shelter.   The goal of this PR blitz and the "Light the Way" program is to encourage community members and organizations to support The Lighthouse and its mission in helping support families during their times of need.  The campaign will ask the community to “Light the Way” for Lighthouse residents as they work toward complete independence again.  With a focus on social media, graphic design, and an application to help in monetary or volunteer capacities, the goal of “Light the Way” is to ultimately increase awareness of The Lighthouse mission and the needs of current residents.

6

Playground Revamp

Mr Strass' house is designing and planning a children’s playground to help entertain the children staying at The Lighthouse. They, as an advisory, are creating a proposal of the playground, which was formulated by us. They have broken up into four teams--Budget, Design, Presentation, and Production--in order to successfully complete the project. Their plan for this playground will include suggestions for how to get the money, supplies, and building of the playground.

7

 Community Business Awareness Campaign

Mr. Ebel's house is in the process of researching area businesses that could be potential financial partners in the success of the Lighthouse. Students intend to find out a little about the mission of such companies and how their mission could line up with the values of the Lighthouse. Representatives from the businesses will then be invited in to attend the showcase event. During the event students from this advisory will be giving several 10 minute informative presentations about the lighthouse and homelessness in general.

8

ETA Gives

The Beyhan/Stanczak advisory has come up with an items fundraiser. They have assigned points to each item on the list The Lighthouse gave them. When students bring in an item it adds to their advisory’s points. To keep track of the points, the house came up with a giving tree. Each time their house gets another point a leaf is added to their advisory’s branch on the tree. The house with the most leaves by the end of the contest will win a donut party.

9

Operation Spotlight

Mr. Urschel's house pledges themselves to shift the perspective of potential donors who may not yet recognize the essential functions provided by the Lighthouse. Their team, in collaboration with the Lighthouse executive board, will design high quality videos to shine a spotlight on the positive outcomes achieved by former Lighthouse residents. Their digital media can be used in direct marketing to donors by providing evidence of the Lighthouse’s effectiveness.

Mr. Sittler's house will be working with the small garden at the Lighthouse that the residence use to grow vegetables.  We want to not only give the residence a jump start on getting the garden ready for planting but, also provide them with the resources to maintain and ensure the highest yield from their crop.  In addition, Mr. Sittler's house will be preparing a resource book to teach the residence how to preserve their yield for use all year long.
